Limousin Cattle

Limousin

Limousin cattle are selected by the MACDUFF Producer Group farmers as a breed that is well known for highly muscled beef without excessive fat cover. Limousin cattle are distinguishable by their beautiful golden-red hides. The breed originates from the South West of France, first coming to the UK in the 1960s and to Scotland in the early 1970s. They immediately became popular as a hardy breed which produced high quality beef that was consistent and lean. Limousin cattle are now so popular that they have become the leading beef breed (numerically) in the UK. This is due to the fact that they boast several other advantages, including fertility, growth, milk, feed efficiency, calving ease and meat yield to name a few.
